Prelaunch of Personal Development for Stupid People

By on March 19, 2008

Have you ever just had it with all of the self improvement dogma that is happily running rampant all over the Internet these days? Does the term “information overload,” or the question “Where did all of these ‘alleged’ experts come from?” ever cross your mind?

If so, then I’ve got just the thing that you’ve been looking for!

You see, the problem with personal development isn’t that the available systems don’t work, but rather that people tend to “run home to momma” when they are faced with too many choices:

  • Law of Attraction
  • Affirmations
  • Visualization
  • Positive Thinking
  • Goal Setting
  • Time Management
  • Productivity
  • Meditation
  • Motivation
  • Self-Acceptance
  • Self-Discipline
  • Subconscious Reprogramming
  • Brainwave Entrainment

AGHHHHHHH! And that’s just the list that I thought of off the top of my head!

I am not saying those systems don’t work, because they all do, IF you believe in them, and IF you consistently practice them.

And therein lies the problem, Grasshopper. With so many methods to choose from, and with any given “guru” claiming that their way is the “best” way, most people are left standing there scratching their heads. Or, as is more often the case, people buy products, read them, watch them, or listen to them, and THEN they stand their scratching their heads!

The lack of belief and/or the lack of consistent application retards any benefit that may have been derived from a full level of faith in the process, or an impenetrable willingness to see the processes through to fruition.

Enter: Personal Development for Stupid People

Personal Development for Stupid PeopleThis new product that I am creating is based upon the very real truth that people have allowed their hands to be tied because no one was there to HOLD their hand, and then walk them through the process. Without someone to kick them into action, people have read/watched/listened to enough self improvement information to create a race of pure geniuses, yet most people can’t even get out of debt, let alone make any significant, long-term improvements to their lives.

If you are one of those people, and I am calling you out, I’ll have to apologize for not feeling sorry about it. If you are getting called out, it is because you need to be called out, and that is exactly what Personal Development for Stupid People is going to do.

This is not another product going on about how you are an empowered being (although you are), or how you can do anything that you want (although you can), or about how all of your answers are already inside of you (although they are).

No, Personal Development for Stupid People is going to be more “in your face,” much like many of the blog posts here at Today is that Day are. I’m not pulling any punches, I’m not holding anyone’s hand, and I’m certainly not going to tell you that all you have to do is sit on your couch and think about being happy in order for success to come beating down your door!

An Opportunity

Personal Development for Stupid People is not finished yet, and that is for 2 reasons:

  1. It’s just not finished yet. How’s that for some honesty?
  2. I wanted to get feedback from my personal development craving readership before I closed my word processor, and officially launched the new product.

How is that an opportunity for you? Again, I have 2 answers:

  1. If you are one of the people who has been struggling with personal development, and there is some content that you want to see in the book, click right here to send me an email. Get the email to me no later than 6:00pm EST on Sunday, March 23, 2008, and if your idea has value, I’ll include it in the book.
  2. Since the product is not done yet, but you want to support the process (e.g. – pay the writer!), you can secure your own copy at a significant discount if you order it by the deadline, March 23, 2008, at 6:00pm EST.

Personal Development for Stupid People is going to be in eBook format (Adobe PDF), and I am also going to record the entire thing, breaking it down into chapters that can be easily downloaded in audio MP3 format. There will be no additional charge for having one version or the other. All purchasers will get links to download both.

As with all Today is that Day products, Personal Development for Stupid People will be available completely free of charge to all Premium level (or above) members of the Personal Development Partners website.

As I indicated earlier, this product is NOT going to be about making you feel good about yourself, helping you come to terms with your past, or any other similar new-age dogma. Rather, Personal Development for Stupid People is going to be about why your life isn’t improving, and it is going to put it all out there with a bare bones, in your face mentality. Here is a sample of some of the chapter titles, only with the solutions cut off. You’ll have to buy the book if you want those! 🙂

  • You’re Fat because you…
  • Your Relationships Stink because you…
  • Your Health needs to improve because you…
  • You’re Broke because you…
  • Your Career is not what you want because you…
  • Your Visualizations aren’t Working because you…
  • Your Affirmations are Useless because you….
  • You’re Confused about Personal Development because you…

Personal Development for Stupid PeopleThis product will likely shock you, it may anger you, and you might even get insulted! I’m not pulling any punches on this one, but I am promising this:

If you read/listen to the book, and you apply the teachings that it contains, your life WILL improve, you WILL “personally develop,” and you WILL see a stark contrast between what people are doing, and what actually works.

Future purchase price of Personal Development for Stupid People: $22

Discounted price if you pre-purchase your copy now: $12

Either way, all Today is that Day products come with a money-back guarantee, but as I said above, your life WILL improve as a result of applying what this product teaches, so you won’t need that guarantee.

That is, if you’re brave enough to buy it!

Very funny, Aaron! And, with the success of books like “The Idiots Guide to…” and “… for Dummies” you might have a hit.

    Thanks, Maria!

And yes, it WILL be a hit, because that is my intention, so I will make it a valuable – and sometimes humorous – pile of great information! 🙂

It’s the anti- Steve Pavlina! (gotta shamefully admit, I kinda love that…)

I understand that this will be tongue in cheek, but I really have a problem with the title. (Just as I have a problem with the For Dummies and For Idiots books). If I were stupid or a dummy or an idiot, I would not be admitting that I don’t know something and need help.
    My two cents.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, DeBorah!! 🙂

And yes, you are correct, it is meant to be tongue in cheek. The idea is not that people are actually stupid, since no one really is, but rather that the entire process needs to be simplified, rather than discussed and analyzed from every conceivable angle.

The book will do exactly that, as the chapter titles that I listed above indicate. It won’t be a long, drawn-out discussion about how to achieve goals or success, but rather more bare bones, “do the work, get the reward” type of instruction.

It’ll be great stuff, and fun, too. A pleasant change of pace from the information overload that permeates the industry right now.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on the subject, DeBorah!

Yes, the title is somewhat questionable, but it might work. The book with such a title can be either a great success or failure. I could imagine that many people are confused when for the first time come across the subject of personal development, and indeed they need some sort of step by step introduction.

I love the pic, Aaron. LOL. That just about made my day.

Over the months, I’ve decided that most of the people running PD Websites (and you know I run one of these too) are just as “stupid” as everyone else, and their Web sites are basically vehicles for creative writing, blow-hardsmanship, and working out personal issues online under the guise of guruship. I personally go out of my way to tell people I’m not a guru, but anyone who runs around espousing various philosophies of living certainly is setting himself up as one, whether intentionally or not.

So perhaps I should write a book called “Personal Development, by Stupid People and for Stupid People: Let’s be Stupid and Grow Together!”

What do you think? Is it a hit? LOL! I’d better get behind my type writer and start working on this post-haste.

Hey Aaron, I hope you know I wasn’t trying to disparage you or your wonderful book with that last comment. I was just clownin’.

Note: I’m also thinking about writing a book called “Getting Less Done,” which is my answer to GTD. LOL.

I just love the cartoons. Interesting what you are saying.
I have been involved in this industry of PD for the past 20 plus years!
I find different things work at different stages of ones life

I was listening to the Law of Attraction how to guy Michael Losier My current focus, because it is simple and find my readers are liking simple.
I must say the word stupid got me to open my email. look forward to reading the book

    Sunnyray,

I have found that controversial titles do exactly what they are designed to do – grab attention. Once the attention has been grabbed, then the reader can make an informed decision about whether or not to purchase the book. 🙂

As far as step by step instruction, that is certainly something that everyone can benefit from. Even though I spent 3 years as a personal trainer, I am still considering the purchase of a rather intense fitness program that I’ve checked out a few times. It isn’t that I don’t know how to get in shape, but rather that I just like the idea of following a program that I don’t have to put my own brain power into.

    Thanks for your comment, Sunnyray!

    John,

Not at all! I love the titles that you’ve come up with, and it shows that you have grasped exactly what I’m talking about! 🙂

Sometimes the opposite of the mainstream is exactly what people need to hear. Thanks for your comments, John – always great to hear your point of view!

    March 24, 2008 at 7:22 am

    Thanks, Suzie!

I’ve listened to Michael Losier’s stuff many times, and although his style doesn’t really resonate with me, his words do, and I think he has a firm grasp on the “focus = results” thing.

This book will talk about that many times with regard to people focusing on things other than what they SHOULD be focusing on in order to attain results.

I’ll have it all completed on April 2nd, Suzie, and I promise it will be worth the time to check out! 🙂

    Hey Aaron.
You know me! “I can tell you what you want to hear or I can tell you the truth.” Sometimes people need to be shocked in action. Go for it!
    Craig

Thanks for your support, Craig! I like the “shocked into action” idea, and the truth itself is often exactly that – shocking!
