Paleo / Primal Update….

By on November 26, 2011

I’ve been eating ‘primal’ now for about 12 weeks and I thought I would share the results.

Weight: Lost 10.8 lbs

Body Fat %: Lost 4.1%

Muscle: Gained 2%

I may not be breaking any speed records for weight loss, but for the first time in more than a decade, my weight is consistently going in the right direction. I now have hope that it is possible to get back to that pre-baby, pre-career, pre-adulthood-responsibility weight!

This has been a totally fun adventure – I always thought that I hated to cook but what I really hated was spending hours in the kitchen making food that made me feel like crap! I love trying new healthy meals that take less than 20 minutes to prepare and even enjoy trying some that take longer.

While I’ve read pretty much every book on the topic at this point… Mark Sisson’s book “The Primal Blueprint” is the easiest to follow and to implement – some of the others are way too detailed and strict about what you can or cannot eat – I’m trying to simplify my life, not make it more complicated!

If you want ALL the details, I love Ori Hofmekler and Gary Taubes! If you just want to get started, then Mark Sisson’s stuff is awesome. His blog https://www.MarksDailyApply.com is one of the few that I actually read on a regular basis.

Another thing that Dan & I have been doing is much shorter, more intense workouts – instead of working out 45 minutes to 1.5 hours 5-6 times per week, we’re working out 20 – 35 minutes 4-5 times per week. Check out “You Are Your Own Gym” (https://www.marklauren.com)- I love this workout! All of the exercises can be done with stuff you have around the house and there’s a totally awesome iPhone app. I do confess that we recently bought a TRX – makes a lot of the “Pull” exercises easier…

The gains that we’ve seen in both strength and muscle tone over the last few months is incredible and it still fits easily into our crazy busy schedule.
